Arm Slings - A Beginner's Guide

If you break a bone in your arm, it could take a while for you to adjust.  This isn’t just because of the amount of time it may take for the injury to heal, but also because of how much you are going to need to protect it during recovery.

For example, you should always make sure you keep any casts fully covered to avoid getting them wet or damaged.  That could result in you causing infection to your wounds!  What’s more, dust and debris can also get into your casts.  The best idea is, of course, to cover things up.

Arm slings, therefore, offer you a fantastic way to keep things clean and clear, while looking fantastic. If you’ve never considered a stylish arm sling before, now is a good time to learn a bit more about them!

Why Buy a Designer Arm Sling?

Here at Cast Covers, we don't just offer covers for leg casts or waterproof coverings for simple injuries.  We also supply comfortable, stylish slings for arm injuries, too.  If you need to cover up or support an arm cast to protect against foreign bodies or further injury, consider getting a sling.  These will help to support your healing, as well as to help keep things as comfortable as possible.

You may also want to purchase protection if you need to continue working while injured.  Doing so will enable you to uphold a professional look while keeping your cast clean.  What’s more, arm slings from Cast Covers are easy to wash and maintain and come in a fantastic series of colours and styles.

Measuring for a Cover

Before buying an arm sling, make sure you carefully take measurements.  Ideally, you should measure from your elbow to the base of your little finger.  We supply products such as Arm Slings which come in various sizes based on these measurements!  Many of our products are available in small, medium and large, meaning there’s room for everyone.

Cover and Secure

Once you’ve decided which sling is best for you, it’s time to put it to good use.  When yours is delivered, make sure to ask for help in putting in on.  It can be challenging to do with one hand!

Carefully insert your cast through the sling.  The seam should be at the back of your arm, as this is in place to stop you from slipping out.  Once you’re in, fasten the cover in to place with the handy Velcro straps, which can loosen and tighten as you require.  Our Arm Sling range, for example, comes with a variety of safety strappings.  You can strap these to different angles, depending on what is comfortable for you.

Looking After Your Sling

As well as looking after your arm, you should look after your sling!  All our slings are well-made and are highly durable.  Our range of arm slings is also machine-washable, which means you should occasionally clean them to prevent staining and marks.  Do make sure to remove and store your sling carefully when not in use.

Choosing the Best Covers

Selecting the best arm sling for your needs can be difficult!  However, our range of fantastic looks and fits should help you narrow down your search.  Why not look through our catalogue, or contact us for more information?

Further Support and Guidance

Please note that the above guide is advisory only and should not replace any medical support or guidance.  We recommend asking any questions you may have regarding your cast and injury during consultations.  Do always take care with your cast, and never over-exert yourself.

Customer Testimonials

We've helped thousands of people find relief while they are recuperating and we're an ACC approved vendor.
Meet a few of our customers and see how Cast Covers has impacted their recovery:

'"We have just returned from a 2 week holiday in Rarotonga. Before we left our 8-year-old daughter fell off her scooter and broke both bones in her arm. This was a huge blow for us as our holiday was all booked and we were nearly packing to leave. I went online and google searched cast covers and thankfully you guys came up! I was absolutely blown away by how amazing this product was … no more plastic bags, yay !!! Our girl was able to enjoy the holiday just like the rest of us, even diving and jumping into the pool and snorkelling out in the lagoon for hours on end. We have just had her cast removed but will be holding onto this wee gem for the future, thanks so much!!!  I can’t stress enough how awesome your product is. Even after using it every day for 6 weeks in plaster it’s still in absolutely pristine condition."

Jenna Sayer, Queenstown

" I would just like to congratulate you not only on the great service, but also the great product i.e. Waterproof Protector. My wife received hers yesterday, she has been suffering from an ulcer on the lower part of her leg which has required heavy bandaging twice a week for some time, and today had the first carefree shower that she has been able to have for many weeks. We will both be eternally grateful for this great product. Thank you so very much."

Neville & Dian Butler

"Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know how I am going with my evenup.

I have been using it every day since going from a cast into a moonboot and honestly do not know what I would do without it! Although I am still uneven due to my moonboot having a particularly large sole to it, the evenup at least reduces the strain on my other Achilles’ tendon and my hips and back.

I have been interested to observe that few physiotherapists are even aware these are available and are very impressed with the concept on seeing mine."
